Moving From Yahoo Groups to InlineOttawa.com

In 2007 the OISC discussion group on Yahoo (sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/InlineOttawa) is being decommissioned. This discussion group will be replaced with the discussion groups available directly on the OISC web site Because Yahoo and our Club web sites are separate, you must follow the three steps below to use the new discussion groups. Once the transition is complete, you will no longer be able to use the Yahoo discussion group, and no further messages will be posted on it.

What's the Difference?

Like Yahoo Groups, the OISC Discussion Groups can be used for official club announcements or discussions between members, however the OISC Discussion Groups include many more features for customization, privacy, spam protection and message searching.

Will I have to go to the message board? No! The new Discussion Group includes a digest feature, which not only does what the Yahoo digest did, but gives you more options around when and what kinds of summaries you receive. In addition each digest you receive contains links to the actual messages so you can quickly browse the digest and jump to any interesting messages.

If you have already registered with the club using one of our web registration pages, you may skip this step and go to step 2. If you are a Yahoo Groups user, your Yahoo userid and password are not known by our club web site. To use our club web site (including the Discussion Group) you must register with our club, and provide some basic information, such as name, birth date, email and a userid/password. A birth date is required as it is used to confirm your identity should you ever use the "Forget Password" feature of our web site.

Registration is free and you you may register with our club using our club web site. Open the web page www.inlineottawa.com in your web browser. Then select Welcome > Start Discussing from the main menu on the left, as shown in the figure below:

When you register with our club your userid can be used with all of our onlnie services. Think of it as your online passport to our club.

Fill in the form an click on the Register! button at the bottom of the form. Do not click more than once, please be patient while the page updates to show you a confirmation. When registered you will also receive an email containing the details of your registration, that you may keep for your own records.

Once you have a userid and password for the OISC club web site, you may use it to login in and post messages in the club Discussion Groups area. Although messages may be viewed anonymously, you must login to post a messages. This is necessary to avoid spam messages from web crawler programs.

There are two ways to login; the first is to enter your userid and password at the top of any page on the OISC web site, then click the LOGIN button. This is shown in the figure below:

Should you forget to login before trying to post a message, the Discussion Groups interface will automatically ask you to login. From the Discussion Groups area, you may also login using the Log In link at the top of the page, as shown below:

After logging in you are free to post messages in any of the forums in the Discussion Groups area.

To immediately view messages from the club executive or other club members, simply go to the Discussion Groups area of the club web site (inlineottawa.com) and select Discussion Groups from the main menu on the left side of the page.

For a brief introduction to the Discussion Groups you should view the overview. For detailed instructions on how to set various preferences, post a message, or privately messages another club member, you should view the common tasks.

If you prefer to have the Discussion Groups activity summarized in a digest and emailed to you, turn on the digest feature as described in the common tasks section "How to Turn on the Digest feature?".
