Take Charge
A wonderful lady from California e-mailed me in response to my column to ask advice on how to regain her confidence in pack skating after a crash. The first solution: check your lingo! She wrote, "the thought of skating again in a pack really scares me." Those words only reinforce what this skater wants to eliminate: F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real). She could reframe it like this: "I can't wait for my body to heal so that I can start skating in a pack again because I love skating in a fast pack and I have the skills to do that!" When she is skating, she could repeat to herself (or everyone around her for that matter!): "I love skating in a pack!" Some may think this is an easy solution but trust me, in this situation, the body executes what the mind tells it to do ... don't forget, you are the captain of your ship. Take charge!
