Ottawa Inline Social

Welcome to the Ottawa Inline Social page!

It's not all about training, it's about having fun too! After improving your time over distance through the Ottawa Inline training programs, it's time to enjoy the Ottawa Inline Social Events!

For 2011, the Social Events calendar promises to provide many opportunities for our members to get together and socialize, from the Wednesday evening Social Skates, to the event schedule highlighted below.  Our members rave about our excursions to the P'tit Train du Nord and plan to join us for the Turkey Roll to help out the Ottawa Food Bank. We have a new social event this year, City Skate Orienteering, enjoy an evening on bike path in search of clues.

Events (see below for details):

  • Wednesday evening K2 Social Skate - April to September
  • Camping and Skate weekend - August 12-14
  • Le P'tit Train du Nord - June and July
  • Turkey Roll - October

Camping and Skate

When: August 12-14
Where: Presqu'isle Provincial Park

Registration: Click here to register online

Cost: $30 per person based on double occupancy

Join us for a week-end of fun, outdoors, and of course skating! It’s only 3.5hrs from the city and $30/person. We will be leaving Ottawa late afternoon on Friday August 12 and returning after lunch on Sunday August 14th.

The club has reserved 3 sites for club members and families. This campsite offers a 7km (approximately) paved loop for ideal skating on the bank of Lake Ontario, to the Lighthouse, and then back through a mature forest. The scenery is exquisite! Stéphane Tremblay will be leading a training morning session for those interested.

Other amenities; Hiking trails, long sandy beach, and an ice cream shop nearby. And yes, the sites reserved are a short walk to public washrooms (incl. hot showers), and a 45 second walk to the shore. You can have your morning coffee by the water; just bring a chair to join us at sunrise! Or a towel/mat to rest and observe the shooting stars at night!

Each site can hold either 3 tents or 6 people, whichever comes first.  Please sign-up early to guarantee your spot.

Once registered we’ll look into carpooling and who has what with regards to general camping equipment (ie. Tents, camp stoves, tarps, rope, etc). You will be responsible for your personal items. We will look into a group dinner and bonfire on the Saturday night.  Fun times ahead!

The Presqu'ile Provincial Park is located between Toronto and Kingston and has one of Ontario's longest sandy beaches.  There are walking/running trails but best of all there is a paved 4km loop by Lake Ontario that is ideal for skating.

Le P'tit Train du Nord

Le P'tit Train du Nord is an old railroad converted into a 96 km paved path meandering through the beautiful Laurentian countryside from Labelle to Mont Laurier. This trail is ideal for inline skating as the railroad has smooth asphalt and a maximum grade of 6 degrees.

This year we will be having outings to in June and July.

Turkey Roll

The Turkey Roll is along distance social skate to enjoy the blissfully smooth recreational paths, great National Capital scenery, and help The Ottawa Food Bank all at the same time.

The Ottawa Inline Social Committee was established to promote the social interaction among club members through skating activities during the season, and related activities throughout the entire year.  Let us know if you have ideas for Social Events and ways to promote camaraderie among the terrific group we have!
