Turkey Roll Route Guide
1. Ottawa River PathwayWe start Rolling from Andrew Haydon Park along the Ottawa River Pathway, past Britannia Bay and along the River with the majestic views of the River such as the Rock Sculptures near Tunney's Pasture |
2. Voyageur PathwayCrossing the Portage Bridge, the route continues down the hill on the Voyageur Pathway. As you take in the view of Parliament Hill, watch for the bumps on the Wooden Bridge. |
3. Alexandra BridgeAs we pass the Museum of Civilization, we take a left up the short hill, go along the side of the Museum and across the wooden (and bumpy) path on the bridge. Be sure to stop and take in the great view of both the Ottawa and Gatineau shorelines. |
4. Sussex Drive to Rideau FallsProceeding up the hill beside the National Gallery, the route crosses at the lights, then continues along the Sussex Road sidewalk until the NRC. The route follows the path behind the NRC then over the Rideau Falls and offers this view. |
5. Rideau River PathwayCrossing Sussex, the route continues along the freshly paved Rideau River Pathway, with many terrific views such as this shot overlooking Carleton University. South of Heron, the pavement is rough so be careful. |
6. Hogsback FallsThe Rideau Path concludes at one of our Ottawa treasures, Hogsback Falls. Time for a break and a view of the scenic falls. There is a pathway on the north side that you can skate out on for an even better view. |
7. Rideau CanalThe Rideau Canal paths are two of the most scenic paths in Ottawa. The route travels the entire length of the Eastern path, continues over Wellington (be sure and stop and take in the view to the right) then continues on the Western path. To get onto the Western Path, we will go through the NAC, so if you are not comfortable with hills, be sure to ask for help from one of the other skaters. |
8. Dows LakeProceeding down the freshly paved Western Pathway, we come to Dow's Lake and the Pavilion, another rest spot. We follow the Western path south of Dow's lake to the Hartwell Locks. |
9. Hartwell LocksWe say goodbye to the canal as we pass by the Hartwell Locks, and head inland to the Experimental Farm Pathway. Watch out for the pavement on the road out to Prince of Wales Drive -- there are spots where the pavement is broken. |
10. Experimental Farm PathwayAcross Prince of Wales is the Experimental Farm Pathway, passing through the fields and barns then up the long hill to a steep downhill to Maitland. |
11. Pinecrest Creek PathwayCrossing Woodroofe is the brand new pavement of the Pinecrest Creek Pathway. We are on the home stretch now, this path proceeds along the Transitway and joins the Ottawa River Parkway where we backtrack to Andrew Haydon Park. |
