About Sunday Bikedays
Local residents and visitors of all ages can walk, run, cycle and inline skate with their family and friends on scenic, vehicle-free roads in the region. In 2003 InlineOttawa.com teamed up with the NCC and Alcatel-Lucent to promote safe inline skating by providing a patroller program, weekly inline skating information and assistance booth, and special equipment and skills clinics. This collaboration has been very well received by the public and our members.
Inline Ambassadors on Rockcliffe Parkway
The Ottawa Inline Skating Club is proud to provide Inline Ambassadors on the Rockcliffe Parkway during the weekly NCC/Alcatel-Lucent Sunday Bikedays. Patrollers wear highly visible uniforms and are available to offer general assistance to the public such as providing tips, answering questions, promoting safety, and adjusting helmets.
Learn To Skate Program
From June 1st to August 31st, 2008 we are offering basic skills "Try and Learn" workshops on the Rockcliffe Parkway. Facilitated by instructors from the Ottawa Inline skating club. These workshops are geared to new skaters that want to learn about skating safety, inline skating equipment and try out basic techniques including strides, turning and braking.
The "Try and Learn" workshops are FREE TO THE PUBLIC, courtesy of Alcatel-Lucent and the NCC. Registration is on a first come first served basis with limited class sizes. We recommend being on-site at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of class. And remember, have FUN!
Safety Promotion and Education
Ottawa Inline Skating Club volunteers promote safe inline skating by encouraging the proper use of helmets, wrist guards, and other protective equipment, undertaking minor skate and equipment repairs, presenting helmet fitting workshops. Further basic rules of the road (slower skaters/cyclists and young children toward the curb - faster skaters/cyclists to pass in the middle) are suggested.
