RECREATIONAL

Recreational

Like other years , OISC will provide a recreational program, the K2 Fun-Fit Wednesday Social Skates. Registration for this program allows you to take advantage of our incredible member benefits.

Please note: While the Wednesday skates are a more relaxed, recreational/fitness level of skating, you must be able to skate well enough to keep a reasonable pace with the main group, approximately a leisure bike pace. This program is not well-suited to absolute beginners. If you are unsure what level of skater you are, you are welcome to try the Wednesday skate for free the first time to see if it is a good fit for you. Alternatively, visit our tent every Sunday on the Rockcliffe Parkway to get some advice, an evaluation of where you might fit in the club's various programs, or a free lesson (see below).

K2 Fun-Fit Wednesday Skates

The K2 Fun-Fit Wednesday Social Skates are all about fun, fitness & friends. This group’s focus is mostly recreational skating as a way to enjoy the outdoors and adopt a more active lifestyle. Come out and enjoy the Ottawa paths for a couple of hours of skating and then refuel with us at a local restaurant or pub. As mentione above, this program is not well suited to absolute beginners. Skaters should be able to skate at the same pace as a leisurely bike ride.

Each Wednesday the session will be held on a different path. See the K2 Fun-Fit Wednesday Social Skate Schedule below (directions to each location are given below the table). You may also contact social@inlineottawa.com for more information.

For new skaters, the Club is offering basic skills workshops during NCC/Alcatel Sunday Bike Days on Colonel By Drive. These workshops, facilitated by instructors from the Club, are geared to new skaters that want to learn about skating safety, inline skating equipment, and try out basic technique including stride, turning and braking. These workshops are free to the public but registration is required as there is a maximum of 20 participants per session. Registration can be done at the OISC tent the day of the class.

Attendees of the basic skills workshop are encouraged to check out the inline skating instruction courses offered by The City of Ottawa.  See the City of Ottawa site for more details.

Directions to meeting points for Wednesday Social Skates (from OTTAWA):

Aylmer Marina, Aylmer Quebec

From downtown Gatineau, take Blvd Alexandre-Taché West, and this turns into Chemin d'Aylmer. At Wilfred Lavigne, it becomes Rue Principle and this ends at the Marina. From the West end of Ottawa, cross the Champlain Bridge and turn left on Chemin d'Aylmer.

Dow's Lake - meet at the Dow's Lake Pavillion

Parc Moussette, Gatineau, Québec

361 CH LUCERNE, GATINEAU, QC J9A 1S3

From the west, take the Champlain Bridge, turn right on Ch. Lucerne and continue to the school and park in front of the school.

From the east, take Alexandre-Taché, turn left on rue Boudria. You will pass beside a school, keep going and park in front of that school.

Champlain Bridge Ottawa River, Ottawa, Ontario

There is a NCC parking lot right beside the Champlain Bridge accessible from Ottawa River parkway just east of Island Park Drive. If you are coming from the west, proceed through the lights at Island Park Drive and turn left at the access to the parking lot.

Ottawa River Parkway (ORP West)

On the Ottawa River Parkway heading west, park in the last public parking lot about 1 kilometre past the Woodroofe turn off. Parking is free. (it is the last parking lot before the rough pavement)

Rideau River, Ottawa, Ontario

We will meet at the parking lot opposite of McArthur Ave on North River Road (400 North River Road).  From downtown, go east on Rideau Street; as soon as you cross the Cummings bridge over the Rideau River, turn right on North River Road. Continue for two blocks and turn right into the parking lot at McArthur Street. From the 417, take Vanier Parkway North and turn left at McArthur.  Continue across North River Road into the parking lot. The parking is free during evenings and weekends. I believe the park is called RiverRain park.

Chemin Allen and Chemin Mcconnell, Aylmer, Quebec

We will meet at the end of Chemin Allen, neer the baseball field. You can park alongside the road.
