Some 2009 Inline Events

Ottawa is once again starting off the racing season with the 21 km Run for Reach on April 26, in support of Reach Canada. The race will be held on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway along the historic Rideau Canal. The flat course and 21km distance is perfect for easing back into the skating season, as is an ideal challenge for the novice or first-time racer.

The club will again be sending several teams to the 24 Hrs Inline Montreal, which comes with the spring on June 6-7, 2009. This relay race is quite a unique event that attracts skaters of all abilities for its electrifying atmosphere and for the opportunity to skate for the love of it or for the love of a serious challenge with the crème de la crème in the skating world.

Throughout spring and summer, OISC skaters will enjoy races and events such as those described below from last year. As usual during the long labour day week-end, the club will be hosting the Ottawa Inline Festival , on September 6 this year. The Festival includes distances of 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K, all along the scenic and freshly paved Rockcliffe Parkway - an excellent course for beginners and advanced skaters alike. The event is very inclusive of families, who are offered special deals on registration fees.

To help skaters prepare for these and other events, the Ottawa Inline Skating Club offers its regular training to build athletic endurance and skating skills. The club's race team will be offering training specific to track racing to all members who wish to participate. In addition the club offers recreational and social programming for our members who just want to spend sunny afternoons and relaxing evenings with skating friends.

2008 Event Listing

The RSO series runs through the summer on various dates in various cities. The series aims to provide skaters with competitive venues, and introduce more skaters to the competitive aspects of inline skating.

Minto Run for Reach - Sunday April 26th, 2009

The inlineottawa.com club worked with the Run for Reach organizers to have the 21km inline skating event return in 2009. For more details on the inline skating event, please see the club's information page.

Squiggy Classic - March 13th - 15th, 2009

The beautiful Wilderness area parklands of Morris Bridge, Trout Creek and Flatwoods will once again be home to this annual sports festival. The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department and the Wilderness Trails Association presents the Squiggy Classic on March 13-15, 2009. The three-day sports festival, benefiting "Friends of the Park", will showcase the park's trails to participants in mountain-biking, adventure racing, road bicycling, inline skating, canoeing and off-road foot racing.

Festival Rollerblade Montreal - May 171th, 2009

This family oriented event offers races for skaters at all levels and ages. Held on the Gilles Villeuneuve track in Montreal, this event will offer fun and speed for all. This event includes a 4Km race and a youth race, bring the whole family!

Provincial Championships - May 30-31st, 2009, Harriston

The provincial championships are open to all skaters. The event is held on a banked track in Harriston and features several short track events, including sprints, relays, elimination and points races. Although this event is used to qualify skaters for the nationals, there are no prerequisites to skating in the provincials.

National Championships - July 3rd through 5th, 2009, Guelph ON

This series of events includes indoor short track and outdoor long track races like provincials, but also includes a 42K marathon at the end of the week.

Canada Day Marathon - Saturday July 1st, 2009

Featuring a large section of new pavement the Canada Marathon offers both a 21K and 42K distance event and includes small hills to add to the challenge. This marathon is held in Cambridge, Ontario and features awards by age category and a BBQ lunch.

24 Hrs Inline Montreal - Saturday and Sunday June 6-7, 2009

The 6th edition of this 24 hour relay race brings together hundreds of skaters from all around the world. This event sees teams and solo competitors skate for glory, fitness and fun. Costumes allowed! Skaters may sign up solo and challenge themselves for skating endurance, or join a team and compete against other teams for most laps in 24 hours.

The inlineottawa.com club is planning on sending several teams, some competitive, some fitness and some just for the fun of it! The club will also be offering programming to help condition skaters for this event and teach specific relay skills.

Skate Boston - July 17th - 19th, 2009

Skate Boston is a weekend event with multiple skates and distances. Skates will be lead by local skate leaders taking you through many of Boston's great sites and skating territory. We've got all new routes for everyone.

All skates will have a sag wagon and water and snacks provided along the way. Saturday and Sunday's skates include lunch as well.

This event is not designed for beginner skaters. Bicyclists are welcome on all routes

Hayward Inline Marathon - Saturday August 8th, 2009

Come to our all-day skate party in the in the beautiful north woods of Wisconsin! See why the Hayward Inline Races are quickly becoming THE event of the summer race season.

For 2009, Participants choose their race distance (all new this year) - 10-Mile, 20-Mile or the new 30-Mile Challenge distance - and race on smooth blacktop roads through pine-studded forests and pristine wilderness lakes.

Saint Paul Inline Marathon - Sunday August 15th, 2009

With a focus on fun and family the Saint Paul marathon provides a fast course and fun at the same time. This is an excellent inline marathon for beginners and advanced skaters alike and attracts thousands of skaters. An excellent warm up for the Ottawa Inline Festival or the Northshore marathon.

Ottawa Inline Festival - Sunday September 6th, 2009

The inlineottawa.com club is hosting the 2007 Ottawa Inline Festival. The Festival allows competitive skaters, fitness skaters and families to enjoy a scenic marathon route. This fun filled afternoon features skating distances of 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K. Skaters are allowed to skate in multiple distances, and some even compete for the "Triple Crown" bragging rights!

Northshore Marathon - Saturday September 19th, 2009

This is the premier inline skating event in North America. With thousands of skaters on a very fast course, inline skaters routinely achieve personal bests. This event is held in Duluth Minnesota and features the largest cash awards of inline races in North America. Skaters may compete in different classes including fitness and recreational, and also choose either a half marathon or full marathon. For more details see the official event web site. Athens To Atlanta Road Skate - Sunday October 11th, 2009

With 23 years of tradition, Athens-to-Atlanta is the oldest and most famous road skate in America. Starting in Athens, Georgia, participants skate through beautiful country roads and quiet suburbia before navigating city streets and triumphantly crossing the 87-mile finish line in Atlanta's Piedmont Park.

The course is challenging and requires experienced skating ability, courage, and stamina. Skaters who may not be ready for the whole 87 miles may opt for the 38-mile event, which also starts in Athens, or the latest 52-mile event, which starts near Dacula, GA. Both four and five wheeled skates are welcome and anyone from 8 to 80 years old may enter.

Defi de L'lle de Montreal - October 17th, 2009

The D‰fi de L'ðle de Montr‰al (Montr‰al Island Challenge) is a 128-kilometre race on inline skates around the Island of Montr‰al. It has been held every year since 1996 on the third Saturday in October, when the weather is ideal for skating and the fall colors are at their best. The next D‰fi will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007.

A race, you say? Officially the D‰fi is not a race, so how fast you take it is up to you. Speedskaters and fitness buffs - anyone who loves inline skating - will find the D‰fi a fun and rewarding experience. Since much of the route is through beautiful parks, no one will blame you if you take your time and enjoy the sights. On the other hand, if you like speed and a good hard challenge, this course will soak up everything you can give. To earn a gold medal, finish within 8 hours; for silver, within 10 hours; for bronze, within 12 hours.

Houston Inline Marathon - Sunday November 1st, 2009

The race course on which the Fun Skate, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon will take place is on Allen Parkway between Bagby and Dunlavy, in downtown Houston, Texas. The center of activities will be Eleanor Tinsley Park, which is situated along Allen Parkway.
