Inline skating news, events, expert advice and more

Dear Inga,

Fall is the best time for inline skating with events of all kinds. Virtually all are organized by passionate volunteers with one aim in mind: go skate with the largest number of skaters possible!

This On a Roll is all about the biggest and best inline events this fall. Plus I figured I'd point you in the direction of some interesting inline web sites. Go ahead - be amazed!

Big races - big results

Ottawa skaters are on the scene!

Results from legendary Duluth:
Ottawa skaters left their mark on the largest inline race in the US or Canada.
JF Messier (1:09:29); Sergio Almeralla (1:15:59); Allain Legacy (1:20:44); Dan Dutrisac (1:21:25); Daniel Thompson (1:21:30); Ray Vermette (1:26:59); Dominique Lalonde (1:33:08). Read Ray's report.

New York 100k and marathon was back this August after a one year hiatus.

Daniel Thompson from Ottawa raced at the St Paul marathon and finished in 1:20:38.

JF also won our own Ottawa Inline Skating Festival marathon on Sept 3 in 1:23:46. Here's the article published in the Centretown Buzz (the print version included a great photo, too).

The most amazing of all inline marathons for sheer numbers: Berlin. See if you can locate some of your friends among the throngs of 9,000!

October: Inline Skating Month

Two long ones coming up

Legends are built when adversity strikes. In the case of the long races of the season, we see Athens to Atlanta (yes, that's like 138 km in rolling hills, traffic and cops with radar guns tracking your downhill speed, for the fun of it) returning after last year's last minute cancellation.

The Défi de L'Île de Montréal (Montréal Island Challenge) is a 128-kilometer tour on inline skates around the Island of Montréal. No joke, once all the way around. Simple as that. It has been held every year since 1996 on the third Saturday in October, when the weather is ideal for skating - and the fall colours are at their best. OK, so sometimes it's been a bit wet but really it does make for epic stories! The next Défi will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006.

Check out the Houston, TX inline events on October 14/15 !

Race report: Duluth

by Ray Vermette

"Not long after we arrived, it started to rain." Yup, that's the Northshore Inline marathon report. The OISF proved simnply great preparation for one of the world's fastest marathon courses.

Our new web site and online store has been really well received. Robust, easy to use and chockful of inline skating information, club programming, event calendar, trips, expert articles and more.
