Dear Inga,
Wow!
What an amazing day we had for the Ottawa Inline
Skating Festival. Blue skies, 3-week old
pavement, the buzz of inliners from as far away as
Richmond, BC and Indianapolis, IN.
Of course, we are just at the front end of a full
fall season of inline events. So read on and get
inspired to travel and
skate! |

Festival Report by Inga
Petri
My day started with driving along Rockcliffe
Parkway heading to set up for Festival Village at 7:15
am: hundreds of Hot Air Balloons launched ,set
against the mist rising from the Ottawa River. WOW.
(The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon
Festival (Canada's largest)is in town every Labour
Day Weekend.)
That set the tone for the day for me: beautiful,
fun, smooth.
The Village set up worked beautifully providing
300+ skaters, spectators and volunteers ample of
space to congregate and catch up, and the racing was
fast!
The marathon had 5 (!) women finish under 1:20:30 -
that's a rare feat outside of world cup level racing
- The men's marathon finishing time was under 1:14.
Every other race was equally fast. ( Full results are
here)
We also saw some great racing by young inliners,
both int he short events and the long ones. This year
Bailin and Hugh Xie, showed off their huge talent
from 2 to 42k.
One of my best moments was meeting Phillip and his
3 daughters - they travelled all the way from Richmond,
BC to come to our Festival - thus "winning" the title of
farthest travelled.
Another awesome moment: Working with Chelsea Miller
and the Ground Crew from LiVE 88.5-
our EMCEE for the day. Seeing a pro on the mike was
awesome and added so much to the atmosphere.
The Festival is organized by a group of dedicated
and skilled volunteers. The logistics are huge for this
event with 5 races in 4 hours, plus all the details that
have to come together. And, I think given the feedback
we got, we pulled it off beautifully.
Congratulations to the skaters, organizers (many
who also skated in various events) and spectators!
We'll see you all next year, September 7,
2008. |

Skaters Festival Reports and
Pics We love getting your
reports and photos. We have a gallery up with
hundreds of pics and there'll be more to come.
Plus, we'll be back next year
on September 7, 2008.
With our first marketing effort for 2008 taking
place at the North Shore Inline Marathon this weekend,
we aim to reach many more skaters and keep growing
bigger. You can help, too, by telling your friends,
family and colleagues all about
it. |

OISC events for
everyone!
The club season is far from over. We have two big
events left in September.
Sept 15 - OISC Petit Train du
Nord trip - Laurentians, QC
Many club skaters also race through the
fall in Montreal, New York and beyond!
Plus in early November the AGM and awards
night will be a great party plus the usual
bit of club business, like electing a new board and
setting out the agenda for the next year.

|
OISC is a non-profit club run by skaters for
skaters. We offer programming for recreational, fitness,
speed skaters as well as those interested in racing
track or road. Now in our seventh year, we keep growing
and evolving. Join us for social skating or training and
make yourself at home! |
