Updates on inline skating and club activities July 17, 2007
Dear OISC,
Congrats to all 24 hours relay skaters! See lots of links in next article to pics and stories.
July 20 is the early bird registration deadline for the Ottawa Inline Skating Festival, September 2. So, to help you make up your mind now, we've got a bunch of details in this newsletter. Plus training and sport nutrition tips to help you get ready!
24 hour relay lives up to billing
Montreal 24 hour finish Another epic 24 hour relay is in the books for this year.It rained, it poured, the sun shone... a little bit of everything for the 2007 edition. Skaters came from Canada, USA and France. 18 skaters did it solo, with Eric Gee skating over 500k this year. Ottawa had 5 teams, and a couple of solo registrants.
Check out Ray's photos from the day. Alicia has a nice gallery too. Peter Doucet has pics and video from the day on his Speedskateworld blog. Check out the skatelog team buzz about the relay. Plus some photos.
September 2 - Labour Day Rituals - OIS Festival
festival skaters to the marathon start This day might start with a warm up during Ottawa's unique Sunday Bike (Skate) days. Then conveniently you could skate up to Carleton University just past Bronson St on Colonel By and pick up your race kit at the Start/Finish. We get to keep the Parkway closed, so no need to compete with motorized vehicles all day.

There are lots of races, so you get to skate plenty if you want (max 73 km), cheer for others, meet new friends, catch up with skaters from all over, enjoy the lake, chat some more.

Inevitably the Festival turns into the after race party! Here we drink calorie rich beverages (tip: use water to hydrate) and eat some protein rich pub food - or maybe a salad after all. Frankly, the choice is up to you!

Tapering for a marathon is probably as important as training hard to meet your personal goals.

Plus here are expert training tips on how to get your sprint training right to help you with the demands of pack skating as well as just feeling more fit.
