Dear OISC,
We've moved the Inline Skating
Festival to Rockcliffe Parkway!
September 2 is Festival
time! New pavement and amazing Ottawa
River make for a great backdrop to a full afternoon of racing and
frolicking! Plus find out who's won in our third Inline Festival
registration prize draw, and some news from World
Championships in Columbia. A reminder: club practices
start now at 6:15
pm. |

New Location: Rockcliffe
Parkway
This photo was taken on Thursday - that black stuff
underneath these big wheels is shiny new,
fast pavement!
After 2 club practices on this virgin pavement -
construction only finished this week - the
consensus is WOWEEEH. So, we're moving the
Inline Festival there! The NCC is opening this stretch
for Sunday Bikedays tomorrow (Aug 19) for the first
time. The repaved section spans from Kaymar Drive
pedestrian access point for 5.7 km to the
bridge at St Joseph Blvd. That's about 3 km east of the
Aviation Museum and Rockcliffe Airport.
Advantages of the new course:
- BRAND NEW PAVEMENT
- WIDER TURN AROUNDS
- FASTER COURSE
- OTTAWA RIVER SCENIC BACKDROP
- NO CAR ACCESS ANYWHERE (See below for parking
instructions) MAKING FOR A SAFE COURSE
- EQUAL PARTS RACING AND RECREATIONAL FAMILY

Club Practices change to
6:15 pm Club practices will start at
6:15 pm sharp from now on. Unbelievably given the great
summer we've had, the days are getting shorter.
Starting at 6:15 pm will help us get a full practice in
to prepare for upcoming events, most important, of
course, our very own Ottawa Inline Skating
Festival. |

LiVE 88.5 Ground
Crew Local radio
embraces Inline Skating Festival! Not
only will LiVE 88.5 be on site for all the
racing action, doing interviews and providing
commentating. They will also run free PSA commercials in
advance of the Festival to help get the word out.
We have also secured local TV coverage of inline
skating leading up to the Festival. Plus lots of web
sites are including our announcements! Thanks to all for
their support. |
|
Online
Registration We have secure online registration
set up for your and our convenience. Some users of
PC Mastercards haven't been able to us their cards,
though. You'll have to ause a differnet credit card or
register using paper
and snail mail or drop it off at club practice.
Also, in the last e-news I had a truncated link
that created some problems. The above I'm told will work
fine. |
It's easy to get to this location. On
the Festival site we have directions for
flying, train, driving from East and West access points.
Festival Village - with on-site registration,
race kit pick up and start/finish area - is at P7 across
from the Kaymar Drive (See Google Map)
pedestrian access point in Rothwell Heights.
The
Rockcliff Parkway will be closed to motorized traffic
from 9 am until 1 pm for Sunday Bikedays. As such,
the Festival site is best reached on skates or by bike
from the Aviation Museum parking lot, approximately 3 km
away or via the Kaymar Drive pedestrian access point. We
will also alert the neighbours of the Festival parking
in advance. Note: street parking is legal as long as
your car faces in the right direction.
The
parkway will not be re-opened to motorized traffic
until the end of our Festival events around 6 pm.
